PSG within touching distance of Ligue 1 title
On Kylian Mbappe’s shining day, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured a victory against Auxerre and came close to clinching the Ligue 1 championship this season in the next round.
Despite being the away team in the 36th round of Ligue 1 against Auxerre, PSG only took 6 minutes to open the scoring against the home team. The goal scorer was none other than Mbappe with a decisive shot from inside the box.
Just 2 minutes later, the French striker scored his second goal of the match, extending PSG’s lead to two goals easily. Messi provided a cross, Ekitike left the ball for Mbappe who finished it off, beating goalkeeper Radu.
While it seemed like the two goals would help PSG dominate Auxerre, the home team fought back strongly and created numerous chances to reduce the deficit in the first half.
It wasn’t until the second half that Auxerre managed to pull one back. Sinayoko made a difference for the home team in the 51st minute. As a result, Auxerre played with more enthusiasm and put significant pressure on PSG’s defense.
However, the excellence of goalkeeper Donnarumma helped PSG maintain a 2-1 lead until the final minutes of the match.
This victory gave PSG an additional 3 points, bringing them closer to clinching the Ligue 1 title. They now have a 6-point lead over second-placed Lens, with only 2 rounds remaining in the league. Furthermore, PSG has a superior goal difference compared to Lens (+50 compared to +34), which virtually ensures that PSG will officially be crowned champions in their upcoming match against Strasbourg this weekend.
