Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior nets a brace against Liverpool
Forward Vinicius Junior shone brightly with two goals against Liverpool in an incredible comeback by Real Madrid at Anfield in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
Despite conceding two early goals within the first 15 minutes, Vinicius Junior helped his team level the score at 2-2 in the first half. In the 21st minute, the 2000-born forward curled a shot into the far corner to beat goalkeeper Alisson Becker and reduce the deficit to 1-2.
In the 36th minute, Alisson received a pass from defender Joe Gomez, but his attempted clearance hit the oncoming Vinicius’ foot and bounced into the net.
After scoring the fortunate goal, the young Brazilian striker ran to the corner of the field and celebrated by closing his eyes and crossing his hands over his chest, a celebration made famous by Cristiano Ronaldo in his last few games for Manchester United.
Prior to this, Vinicius Jr admitted to being a fan of Ronaldo. The 2000-born rising star also looks up to the Portuguese legend as a role model for his career development.
Vinicius’ two goals helped Real Madrid stage an incredible comeback at Anfield, defeating the “Reds” 5-2 on an aggregate and giving them a massive advantage heading back to the Bernabeu for the second leg on March 16th.
Last season, Vinicius contributed 22 goals and 20 assists in 52 games for Real Madrid, including a goal against Liverpool in the Champions League final.
This season, the 22-year-old forward has scored 16 goals and provided 8 assists in all competitions, cementing his position as one of the best forwards in Europe today.
