Rashford fires Man Utd win over Leicester with a brace
Rashford continued his impressive form by scoring a brace to contribute to Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Leicester in the 24th round of the Premier League.
With the advantage of playing at home, the Manchester United players took the initiative to push their team forward and put pressure on Leicester. However, just a few minutes into the game, the home team lost their dominance to the opposition. Manchester United’s defensive system did not work well, allowing Leicester players to continuously get through and threaten De Gea’s goal with shots.
In the first half, De Gea made two excellent saves to prevent Manchester United from conceding visible goals. In the 9th minute, the Spanish goalkeeper used his foot to block Barnes’ shot. In the 21st minute, De Gea jumped and pushed away Iheanacho’s header.
In the first half, despite playing poorly, Man Utd surprisingly opened the scoring. In the 24th minute, Fernandes made a favorable outside-of-the-foot pass to Rashford, who ran down to receive the ball and score. Leicester’s defense was counting on an offside trap, but a slow-advancing defender of theirs left Man Utd’s striker onside.
After the goal, Man Utd still played rather poorly in defense, but Leicester’s attackers also lacked sharpness. After halftime, Man Utd showed a completely different face, with their players pushing up and attacking aggressively, putting strong pressure on the home team.
The fact that Man Utd’s players controlled the midfield helped them to prevent the opponent’s counterattacks effectively, causing Leicester to fall into a deadlock. In the 56th minute, Rashford received a pass from Fred, broke through, and shot to score, bringing the score to 2-0. The assistant referee raised the offside flag, but VAR restored justice for Rashford by determining that he was still onside before the goal.
At minute 62, after winning the ball in the midfield, Man Utd launched a quick attacking play. The home team’s players coordinated well, with Fernandes setting up Sancho for a one-touch finish to score and increase the score to 3-0.
In the second half, Man Utd dominated, even though HLV Ten Hag had proactively substituted key players to hold the line. However, Man Utd maintained their superiority. Quite a few scoring opportunities were created for Sancho and Weghorst, but both failed to capitalize.
With a 3-0 victory over Leicester, Man Utd added three more points to reach a total of 49 points. Man Utd secured their third-place position as they were eight points ahead of the fourth-place team, Newcastle. Man Utd was trailing the second-place team, Man City, by three points and the first-place team, Arsenal, by five points.
