PSG provide an update on Neymar injury
Brazilian forward Neymar had to leave the pitch on a stretcher due to an ankle injury in PSG’s narrow 4-3 victory against Lille at the Parc des Princes in the 24th round of Ligue 1.
During the match, the attacking trio of PSG, Messi – Neymar – Mbappe, each scored a goal, with Mbappe scoring a brace in the 11th and 87th minutes. However, PSG’s victory was not complete as Neymar suffered a severe injury during the game. In the 50th minute, the Brazilian star collided with a player from Lille, leaving him lying on the pitch in agony.
Although the PSG medical team quickly arrived on the pitch, Neymar’s severe injury prevented him from continuing the match. The 1992-born striker was unable to walk and had to leave the pitch on a stretcher.
According to the initial MRI results, there was no tendon tear detected, but Neymar will undergo further examination in the next 48 hours to determine the condition of the ligament.
If the ligament is not damaged, Neymar will take two to three weeks to recover. In the worst case, the 1992-born player will have to sit out for a long time and miss the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Bayern on March 9.
Neymar’s misfortune continues as he suffers from an ankle injury once again. Previously, he had to miss the World Cup 2022 group stage due to a similar injury.
In addition, he has a habit of being injured near his sister Rafaella’s birthday, around March 11. From 2015 to 2021, Neymar did not participate in any matches during this period. Last year, the Brazilian national team player also had health issues in mid-February but only needed a few days of rest to return to play.
Before leaving the pitch, Neymar was a prominent player, creating three opportunities in the first and second halves, two of which became goals. Mbappe and Neymar shone to help the defending champions lead Lille 2-0, but defensive mistakes led to three goals for the visitors. Mbappe and Messi then stepped up to secure a hard-fought 4-3 victory for “Le Parisien”.
