Man City defeated RB Leipzig 7-0 in the Champions League

Man City defeated RB Leipzig 7-0 to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Erling Haaland played a significant role in this victory, scoring five goals.

In the first leg, Man City drew 1-1 with RB Leipzig, but the German side could not maintain that performance in the second leg. Etihad Stadium became a nightmare for RB Leipzig, exposing all of their weaknesses. Man City started the game confidently, while Leipzig showed issues from the beginning. They were pushed back into their own half and struggled under the pressure of The Citizens.

It wasn’t until the 20th minute that Man City opened the scoring from the penalty spot thanks to Erling Haaland after Henrichs handled the ball inside the box. It was a harsh decision from the referee.

Just two minutes later, Haaland showed his intelligent positioning with a powerful header to make it 2-0. Before the end of the first half, the Norwegian striker completed his hat-trick with another headed goal past Blaswich. It was Haaland’s fifth hat trick of the season.

At the start of the second half, Ilkay Gundogan and Erling Haaland continued to torment the away side with three consecutive goals. Within just 12 minutes, Leipzig conceded three more goals.

With his fifth goal, Haaland also broke Man City’s record for the most goals in a season across all competitions, previously held by Tommy Johnson (38 goals). He also took his total Champions League goals to 33, surpassing Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez, Samuel Eto’o, and Kaka. Haaland also became the youngest player to reach 30 goals in the history of the competition (22 years and 236 days).

With a six-goal lead, Pep Guardiola substituted Haaland, Grealish, Gundogan, and Stones. Leipzig had also lost their spirit and only wanted to end the game as quickly as possible. Under pressure, their passes became increasingly inaccurate.

In injury time, Man City sealed their emphatic victory with a goal from De Bruyne. The Citizens advanced to the quarter-finals with an overall score of 8-1.
