France defeated Ireland 1-0 in Group B of the Euro 2024 qualifiers
In Group B of the Euro 2024 qualifiers, France defeated Ireland 1-0 thanks to a goal from Pavard while the Netherlands beat Gibraltar 3-0.
After a 4-0 victory over the Netherlands in their opening match, France traveled to Ireland for their second match in Group B of the Euro 2024 qualifiers with great confidence. However, the World Cup 2022 runners-up had a difficult match.
The home team played a defensive counter-attacking style that made it difficult for France. Although Deschamps’ team had more ball possession, they couldn’t create many chances.
The attacking stars of the French team, such as Mbappe, Griezmann, and Giroud, were all powerless against the resolute and fierce defending of Ireland. The first half ended goalless.
In the second half, the shining performance of a star helped France make the difference. In the 50th minute, defender Benjamin Pavard stole the ball right in Ireland’s half before unleashing a powerful shot from outside the box that beat Bazunu, giving France a 1-0 lead.
After conceding, Ireland pushed their team forward and caused the French goal to shake fiercely. In the last minutes of the match, goalkeeper Mike Maignan made two outstanding saves to help France keep a clean sheet.
With a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Ireland, France consolidated their position at the top of Group B in the Euro 2024 qualifiers with 6 points from 2 matches. Deschamps’ team showed their strength by defeating the two toughest opponents in their group.
