Elon Musk consider buying Manchester United
On his personal Twitter account, billionaire Elon Musk announced that he would buy Manchester United, the football team that has had a disappointing start to the Premier League season.
Elon Musk, CEO of the electric car company Tesla, has once again surprised the online community by announcing the purchase of Manchester United. Sharing on his personal Twitter on the morning of August 17th, Elon Musk wrote: “Also, I’m buying Manchester United, ur welcome.”
This post quickly attracted the attention of many people. In just over an hour, the American billionaire’s message had received nearly 240,000 likes. Notably, this message was posted as Manchester United was off to a terrible start in the Premier League with two consecutive losses, dropping to the bottom of the table for the first time since the top league in England changed its name to the Premier League.
This disappointing result has made Manchester United fans, who have long been dissatisfied, even more, eager for the Glazer family to let go of the team.
According to Forbes’ May 2022 rankings, Man Utd is valued at $4.6 billion, a 10% increase from the previous year. However, many people also doubt this billionaire’s claim to buy the Old Trafford club as he is currently facing a legal battle with Twitter.
In April, Elon Musk announced that he would buy Twitter for $44 billion, equivalent to $54.20 per share. However, three months later, he announced the termination of the agreement, accusing Twitter of fraudulently inflating the number of fake accounts and spam messages on its platform, and refusing to give him full control over this data.
On July 12th, Twitter sued Musk for breach of the contract to buy the technology company. The lawsuit was filed in Delaware state court, requesting that the court require Musk to complete the agreement to buy Twitter, arguing that no amount of financial penalty can compensate for the damage he has caused.
On July 29th, billionaire Musk filed a “reverse” lawsuit against Twitter in the Delaware Chancery Court, objecting to the social media platform’s demand that he complete the signed agreement to buy Twitter.
In the lawsuit, which was announced on August 4th, Musk accused Twitter of trying to hide the actual number of users while the market was declining. The trial for this lawsuit is scheduled to last for five days, starting on October 17th.
