Liverpool continues to close the gap to the top 4, trailing Manchester United by just one point after defeating Leicester City by a significant margin of 3-0 in round 36 of the Premier League.

Leicester 0-3 Liverpool Premier League

Jurgen Klopp’s team visited Leicester City’s King Power Stadium with the goal of winning to compete for a spot in next season’s Champions League against Man Utd and Newcastle, while the home team was also determined to secure all three points to escape from the relegation zone this season.

Both teams entered the game strong, and the home team had the first dangerous opportunity in the 12th minute after a fast counterattack, but unfortunately, James Vardy failed to beat goalkeeper Alisson Becker with a through pass from Harvey Barner.

Just four minutes later, Liverpool retaliated when Gakpo broke free from an offside trap to receive a pass from Alexander-Arnold. Regrettably, instead of passing the ball to Mohamed Salah, who was unmarked, the Dutch striker attempted a shot that missed the post.

After much effort and pressure, Liverpool finally opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. Starting from a counterattack by goalkeeper Alisson, the visitors only needed three more quick passes to put Curtis Jones in a favorable position, who then scored from close range.

Only three minutes later, Mohamed Salah provided a second assist allowing Curtis Jones to score a brace for himself and help Liverpool take a two-goal lead. This was also the halftime score.

The goal advantage helped Liverpool maintain ball control in the second half. The home team had to make several substitutions but their game did not improve significantly.

Leicester’s goalkeeper Iversen even struggled to save shots from Liverpool’s strikers. But in the 71st minute, he could not prevent Liverpool from scoring their third goal of the match.

From a free kick outside the box, Mohamed Salah backheeled to Alexander-Arnold who launched a dangerous curling shot into the top corner of Leicester’s goal, out of Iversen’s reach, sealing a 3-0 victory for the “Reds”.

The seventh consecutive win temporarily places Liverpool (having played 36 matches) 5th in the Premier League with 65 points. They are putting significant pressure on 4th placed Man Utd (66 points after 35 matches) in the race for a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Meanwhile, Leicester are closer to relegation this season, still ranked 19th with just 30 points.
